Hi, This term Ms Jenkins’ 6th class took part in an exciting STEM project in conjunction with the local college, TU Dublin – Tallaght. Two engineers from the college, Gerry & Lucy, visited our classroom every Friday for four weeks. The children engaged in STEM activities in the classroom. Science Week 2019

We had a great week celebrating Science Week with lots of activities taking place during the week. Patrick Hunt from Heritage in schools came in and worked with children in 5th class. The children learned all about the importance of trees. The theme of this year’s Science Week was climate action and climate change. Children from all grades were busy working on science experiments and learning about some very famous scientists. Creepy crawly visitors

Collie Ennis, an expert in all things creepy and crawly visited our third and fourth class students today. The students got to see and learn about many different creatures including pythons, Tarantulas, African Land Snails, Stick insects, scorpions and toads. They learned about the importance of caring for these animals and how cool and amazing these creatures can be. Students learned all about the spiders amazing way of hunting and eating their prey and the fascinating life of snakes and other reptiles. Engineers Week 2019

Engineers Week has been in full swing at the Sacred Heart Senior School. All classes have been busy designing and building different engineering projects. Children in both 5th and 6th classes have taken part in engineering workshops at the Tallaght stadium. These activities were part of South Dublin County Council’s programme for Engineers week. At school the children have been very busy making ‘Wigglebots’ , ‘Paper bridges’ and ‘Spaghetti and Marshmallow Towers’ . Third class experiment with helium

In Mr. Maguire’s class, The children have been learning about different gases and how they work. Last week they got to experiment with Helium. Helium is less dense than other gases in our air, so it rises up into the sky. The children got to see how this works. They blew up balloons with a helium tank and then attached them to pencils. Their mission was to lift the pencils into the air using the Helium. Most of the children estimated it would take a two or three  balloons to lift the pencils but it took around 7 balloons for some pencils to fly up. It was great fun...
