Developing empathy through STEM activiti...

Hi, This term Ms Jenkins’ 6th class took part in an exciting STEM project in conjunction with the local college, TU Dublin – Tallaght. Two engineers from the college, Gerry & Lucy, visited our classroom every Friday for four weeks. The children engaged in STEM activities in the classroom. Learning Chess

chess Mr Maguire is setting up a chess tournament. We are learning how to play chess. All of us can play.  Qwam are Tyler have done lots of practice and we think we are the best. Mr. Maguire will give us some homework passes if we ever beat him. We record our checkmates on a chart. We, Qwam and Tyler, are drawing. We learned about what each piece is worth. A queen is worth 9 points and a pawn is worth 1. Hopefully we will have the tournament soon, we will have to keep practicing before it starts though.   Qwam and Tyler

Maths for Fun

Maths for Fun has really taken off in both 3rd and 4th classes. Over the past number of weeks we’ve had over 40 parents coming into the school to participate in  maths for fun with different groups of children. The children in both grades are really enjoying working with the parents and certainly are having lots of fun while learning new maths ideas. Thanks again to all the parents for coming in to help out.      ...
