Mindfulness with 6th Class

This year all of us in  6th class  are doing a Mindfulness course with the 6th class teachers. I was in the first group chosen to do this class. We do it in the Sensory Room every Monday afternoon. We sit on our Yoga mats and close our eyes. We listen to relaxing music and our teacher talks us through calming strategies that help us to feel very peaceful and chilled. The science behind snow!

Using the website Weather Whiz Kids we found a wide variety of facts about what a blizzard is and how snow and ice are created. What are snowflakes? Snowflakes are made of ice, each snowflake is made up of as many as 200 ice crystals. Some snow crystals are symmetrical. Snowflakes will form only if the temperature is below 0 Celsius. They make those shapes because that is how water molecule form when they freeze. Otherwise they are small and irregularly shaped. They rotate and they become heavier as they fall towards Earth. Gerry Murphy, RTE meteorologist, came into our school on the 19th of June 2017 to see the 6th class projects based on the school’s Raspberry Pi Weather station.
