Having the time of our lives in 4th clas...

For the past fortnight, we have been learning how to read and show the time in our maths classes with Ms. O’Connell. Firstly, to get the hang of what a second, minute and hour feel like, we did some fun activities. We had to listen to the tick of the clock and clap along every second. We discussed what kind of things you could get done in an hour then. After that, we had to estimate how many ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’ you could fit into a minute, half a minute and even a quarter of a minute – that’s the same as 15...

Trip to the woods

In the woods we saw lots of animals. We saw lots of different trees. We saw a big oak tree to sit on for our lunch. Then we started walking around and we saw a deer and we saw a squirrel and mice. People were picking up pinecones and they got wet and soggy. There was a big hill it was really hard to climb we nearly fell. When we were walking around we saw a big tree, my teacher asked us tow rap our arms around the tree to see how many people would fit. It took six kids to fill the tree. We saw lots of people walking their dogs we saw a pug and a German shepherd. When we...

Maths For Fun

Maths For Fun

We’ve been very busy in 3rd and 4th class over the past number of weeks with our Maths for Fun programme. Over a four week period, a large number of parents came into the school to work with small groups of children playing different maths games. Through these maths games the children were continuing to develop different maths concepts in a fun way. These lively maths sessions were really enjoyed by all the children and parents. Thank you to all the parents for giving up their time to help run the programme and we look forward to ‘Killinarden Maths Eyes...

Operation Christmas Child 2014

Operation Christmas Child 2014

A big thank you to all who participated in our Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Every year the children are asked to put a Christmas shoebox together for a child in a developing/war torn country. Our children are renowned for their generosity in this annual appeal. It is always wonderful to watch their boxes being opened by those children and see the joy they bring to those in need, especially at Christmas. We collected 70 boxes altogether which are now bound for Africa. Thanks again to all parents who supported.

Reading for Fun 3rd and 4th class

Reading for Fun 3rd and 4th class

The Parents’ of both 3rd and 4th classes have been coming in over the last number of weeks to help out with our ‘Reading for Fun’ programme. In 3rd class the children have been reading ‘The Giggler Treatment’ and in 4th class the children have been reading ‘The Meanwhile Adventures’. Both books by Roddy Doyle are excellent reads for children (and adults). To mark the end of the ‘Reading for Fun’ programme we had a different activity to finish off with. In 3rd class the children were transformed into the role of ‘biscuit tasters’, much...
