Creepy crawly visitors

Collie Ennis, an expert in all things creepy and crawly visited our third and fourth class students today. The students got to see and learn about many different creatures including pythons, Tarantulas, African Land Snails, Stick insects, scorpions and toads. They learned about the importance of caring for these animals and how cool and amazing these creatures can be. Engineers Week 2019

Engineers Week has been in full swing at the Sacred Heart Senior School. All classes have been busy designing and building different engineering projects. Children in both 5th and 6th classes have taken part in engineering workshops at the Tallaght stadium. These activities were part of South Dublin County Council’s programme for Engineers week. At school the children have been very busy making ‘Wigglebots’ , ‘Paper bridges’ and ‘Spaghetti and Marshmallow Towers’ . Bake Sale Day 2018

At the end of the 2018 school year, 6th class held a bake sale to raise money for two special causes. The children managed to raise just over €1,000. Half of the money went to the Peter McVerry Trust and the rest for new school equipment. As seen in the photograph, new weighing scales and microwave were purchased for the kitchen. A set of yoga mats were bought for our new yoga classes. Some of this money will also be spent on the school toilets. 4th class Magnets

4th class Magnets

We spent Monday afternoon experimenting with magnets in Sciense in Mrs Vaughan’s 4th class. First we figured out how to move one magnet with another in different directions using a sheet with a road marked on it. Next predicted what would and would no attach to the magnets. Then we tested our predictions, while having lots of fun. Lastly we made some sculptures using the magnets and the material that were attracted to them.
