STEM sa Bhaile and Engineers Week 2020

STEM sa Bhaile and Engineers Week 2020

After our amazing remote STEM sa bhaile week, Ms Golding  created a super video which captures the week. ( see our twitter or school story on dojo for this). The children in all grades created some very impressive STEM work at home.

During the year,  the School had a very successful Engineers Week too. Children from all grades participated in different Engineering activities throughout the week. Some school-based projects included different year groups working together on ‘buddy engineering projects.’ These included making robots with Lego, programming a toy car to move, building paper bridges, building spaghetti towers, construction with pringles, straw rocket launching and making leprechaun traps.

Some of our 6th class students showed great student leadership by demonstrating how to make a robot work using a circuit and other materials. The 6th class children made the ‘Jenkins Wigglybot ‘last year and this year they were able to show younger grades how it worked and talk about the design. The different secondary schools are very lucky to have such talented pupils attending their schools next term.

Children in both 5th and 4th class took part in Engineering projects in partnership with TU Dublin (Tallaght) and South Dublin County Council Engineering Dept. The children in both grades got to experience different types of engineering and use their critical thinking skills to work on these projects. The lectures from TU Tallaght were so impressed with the children from our school that we hope to have more visits to the college in the future.

Well done to all the teachers and students on making Engineers Week 2020 so successful.
